Favorite Things I Love This Month

These are a few of my favorite things this month that made my life more positive.

An Open BOOK

Beneath a Scarlet Sky, written by Mark Sullivan is an amazing book. It is a true story which makes it even more fascinating. It follows the life of Pino Lelia who as a teenager helped many Jews escape over the Alps to safety during the War.  Later during the War, Pino’s parents convinced him to enlist as a German

solider because they felt he would be safer. Pino ends up being the driver for Hitler’s right-hand man in Italy. Because of his proximity to the General he was able to learn key information about the German’s plans and began to funnel that information to the resistance. The events of Pino’s life are fascinating with a love story on top of it all.  I loved this book from beginning to end. I hope you enjoy.

‘Your Place or Mine’ is a new film on Netflix starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. The two have been friends for years after a one-night fling 20 years before.  In the film, the two switch homes so Reese’s character can take a course in NYC, while Ashton’s character looks after her son in California. Although they are best friends, they couldn’t be more different from each other, which in the end is exactly what the other needs. It’s a fun light film to watch when you just want to relax or hang with your girlfriends. This is my favorite film on Netflix this month.

I’m all EARS

If you haven’t read or listened to it yet, Spare, by Prince Harry is wonderful to listen to. Prince Harry himself reads the book and whether you agree or disagree that he should have written a book or what he says in it, it is really enjoyable to listen to. The book is well written and he tells his story well. I listened to it while driving to Maine to ski for the weekend. It made the time pass quickly. This was my favorite book to listen to this month.

 No Worse for WEAR

This month I am recommending a pair of Cariuma’s for men. I love this brand and all that it stands for. I have a pair of white OCA Low sneakers which are perfect in the summer. Men seem to wear either clunky boots in the winter or just their sneakers and end up having their feet cold and ruining their sneakers.

Cariuma has a new style of high tops called Caturi; made of suede on the outside and lined with shearling, both vegan and made with recycled materials. The sneakers are water repellent, warm, but look amazing. I personally love the black sued with red and black laces. Check them out here!

FOOD for Thought

For Valentine’s Day you can’t go wrong with chocolate. This Basic Chocolate Cake Recipe from the Food Network is light and delicious and is a favorite in our home. It has sour cream in it, which I think makes it extra moist (sorry to use that work for those of you who have an aversion to it 😊). It’s an easy cake to make. My 11-year-old son says it is his specialty. For Valentine’s Day make it in the shape of a heart and decorate it with love. Basic Chocolate Cake Recipe | Food Network Kitchen | Food Network

Just one of those THINGS

cozy bed

The older I get, the more I want to feel cozy, especially when I go to bed. I want soft, cozy, and warm sheets, good pillows and a comfy bed. If you love the same and want a pair of flannel sheets that feel so soft, I recommend LL Bean’s flannel sheets. They have different versions of their flannel. Some thicker, some softer, with a lot of different colors and designs. My favorite was the Ultrasoft Comfort Flannel sheets, but you can’t go wrong with any of them.

TRIP of a Lifetime

When travelling there is always a change you can lose your luggage. It seems like that has been happening more frequently recently. With the Apple Tags, you will know exactly where your luggage is at all times. You’ll be able to see if your suitcases are put on your plane, and where they are taken, once off loaded. Just use the Find My App on your phone and you can track down your missing luggage. You can use this tag on wallet and keys too, but I think it’s perfect for luggage. If you are planning a trip soon, you should pick a few of these up. AirTag – Apple
