These are my favorite things this month that made my life more positive:
An Open BOOK
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn is an amazing book about three women who worked in Bletchley Park during World War II, helping break Nazi Germany military codes. The book moves back and forth between the time they worked at Bletchley Park in 1940, and then 1947 when they work together again breaking the rose code, to find a traitor to England.
The book is fascinating from an historical viewpoint, following the women’s lives during that era, and learning about the work they were doing to help end the war along with a good mystery.
Be on the WATCH
I love a good home design show and I found one in Dream Home Makeover on Netflix. Shea McGee is the designer and she and her husband Syd own Studio McGee. The Netflix series is in its third season. During each show you get to know more about Shea and her whole family following them on their journey including designing and moving into their own beautiful new home. Each episode also includes a makeover of another house or room of a client. Shea’s style is warm, calming, classic, but with up-to-date trends. She listens carefully to her clients wants and needs, putting it all together in perfect style.
I love that there is deep respect and kindness, a fun family dynamic, and no drama. It focuses on design, family, and building and growing a business together, which would not be easy.
Binge watch Dream Home Makeover on Netflix and be inspired.
I’m all EARS
I love a good self-help book. Reading or listening to one on a regular basis keeps me inspired to continually improve myself. This month I have been listening to Brendan Burchard’s book on Audible called ‘The 6 Habits of Growth’. Brendan learned from 20 years of couching highly successful people, what he believes are the key habits of success. The chapters cover each of the key habits and then provide ideas on how to implement these habits in your life. I love listening to it while I am walking my dog. It has helped me identify areas I need to focus more on and how to make changes in my life to improve those areas.
The book is free on audible with prime. Thank you, Brendan! Hope this book inspires you to continually improve your life as well.
No Worse for WEAR
I love a comfortable, fashionable boot and sorel boots are my favorites. There are many assorted styles, but the ones I absolutely love, are the stylish wedge boots. They not only look amazing, but they are really comfortable, and are waterproof. On top of that, they also have good treads and can be worn in the fall and winter. There are so many colors and a few unique styles I would recommend.

FOOD for Thought
I love pumpkin bread in the fall. Warm, with a bit of butter, is comforting and delicious. It also smells divine when it is baking. Have it with a cup of tea, while reading an enjoyable book, and that can truly make a lovely Sunday morning.
I have used this recipe for years, although I try to use less sugar than it calls for. This recipe makes 2 pumpkin breads. Sometimes we also add chocolate chips to one of them 😊.
Here is the recipe I use from Big Oven – Enjoy!
Just one of those THINGS
In my opinion, a good mug for the fall and winter, is one that fits in your hand well, is big enough, but not too big. I love to buy pottery mugs when I travel. When I reach for the mug, it reminds me of the place I visited and brings back a good memory, that makes me smile.
I love Farmhouse pottery in Vermont. Their designs and simple, rustic, and classic. The store is beautiful, and you can watch them make the pottery while you are visiting. I picked up one of their mugs on a trip to Woodstock which is a super cute town that you should definitely visit.
You can order one of their lovely mugs or pottery at Farmhouse Pottery online though, so you don’t have to wait until you visit to enjoy one of their amazing mugs.
TRIP of a Lifetime
I love to travel but I don’t love the neck ache I get when trying to sleep on a plane. Several years ago, I found this neck wrap from Trtl and ordered, hopeful that it would work. It does! It’s called a travel pillow, but it’s more like a scarf. It holds your head up securely, so your neck isn’t bent so far over, and doesn’t fall forward causing you to wake up. It’s cozy and soft, and easy to put on. Here is the link to this Trtl Travel Pillow.
