My Favorite things of July that make me posiLIVEity ……
An Open BOOK
Karen Slaughter’s book, False Witness is the book I recommend this month. I had not previously read her other books, but I will be going back to read them now. The story is disturbing, but I loved how
it jumped back and forth from the past to present day. It is about two sisters and who had an exceedingly difficult life, and one tragic night comes back to haunt them years later. You learn each sister’s emotional story from that night and how it changed their lives and continues to affect their lives today.
You will constantly wonder how it will all end.
Be on the WATCH
My favorite show to watch this month is the series is White Collar which is free on Amazon prime. It ran from 2009-2014 and there are 6 seasons.
If you like heist type movies, this is a great show for you. It’s basically about an FBI agent Peter Burke (played by Tim DeKay) who puts away a white-collar criminal, Neal Caffrey (played by Matt Bomer). After a few years in prison, an escape, and recapture, the Neil goes to work with Peter as his CI to help the agent and put away other white-collar criminals.
Neil uses his expertise with forgeries and running heists, to assist Peter. It’s funny and smart. The characters are all amazing and I love that it’s kid friendly as well. Having a show, we all like to watch is challenging sometimes. I highly recommend the show.
I’m all EARS
This month my favorite thing that I listened to was “Run Rose Run” by James Patterson and Dolly Parton. It was a terrific book, made even better because Dolly herself reads one of the characters in the Audible version of the book. It’s a great book for the summer. It follows a talented young singer as she emerges as a star in Nashville, while trying to hide secrets from the past. I flew threw it walking my dog in the morning.
No Worse for WEAR
I love Rothy’s because they are sustainably made.
Per the Rothy site they note that:
‘As of March 2022, Rothy’s has purchased 1,188,184 kilograms of yarn, which is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, as certified by the SCS Recycled Content certification.’
And
‘As of March 2022, Rothy’s has purchased 187,309 kilograms (412,945 pounds) of ocean-bound marine plastic yarn. The yarn is OceanCycle certified, verifying that the plastic was collected from land within 30 miles proximity to the coastline.’
How awesome is that!?
They are super comfy, no need to break them in. You can machine wash them if they get dirty and they come out like new.
I have 2 different styles one pair of ‘The Point’ and one pair of ‘The Flat’. I am currently eyeing the Camel Captoe shade in ‘The Point’ for fall.
Check out their whole site for all the shoe and bag options here.
FOOD for Thought
I got this delicious salad from good friends of mine. This ‘Fresh Corn Salad’ recipe from the Food Network is delicious just the way it is, but my friends made it even better by adding feta and baby tomatoes. The additions
add more color, more veggies, and a bit of saltiness that make it even more outstanding. It’s a perfect salad for a cookout and it lasts overnight in the fridge for a second day of enjoyment, which is a rarity for a salad.
Just one of those THINGS
I have been wearing the OURA ring for several years now and its specialty is monitoring sleep. As I have been experiencing hot flashes (thank you perimenopausal symptoms), I have experienced inconsistent sleep for the past year or so. The Oura ring tracks my temp, how much deep sleep I have, REM and lights sleep I have as well as restfulness. Monitoring these has given me some insights on what I should/ shouldn’t do as I prepare for bed and my ideal bedtime. Your activity is also monitored by the OURA ring and tracks # of steps, and total calorie burn.
I personally find the ring comfortable; the battery easily lasts 5 days; I can wear it swimming and it also looks good. I have the gold one and my daughter the silver color. Just FYI – comparing your sleep to a 13-year-old is not advisable. I envy her ability to sleep.
Although the OURA ring is not cheap, I highly recommend it if you want to track your sleep patterns. Sleep is one of the most important things we can do for our bodies to stay healthy and age well.
Check out the different styles here on the OURA site.
